A Look at Iconic Homes From Famous Films

Movies have inspired our creative endeavors for as long as movies have been around. Lately, as I’ve slowly been remodeling my 1940s Cape Cod house, I’ve been turning to my favorite movies for home design and decor inspiration and since my kitchen is next on my renovation list, this got me thinking about the most beautiful and memorable kitchens in film and television. Of course, classics like the Practical Magic kitchen come to mind, but I wanted to take a deeper dive into some of the more overlooked undervalued, and memorable movie kitchens.

From classics like Amelie to more modern films like Call Me By Your Name, let’s dive into the most iconic movie kitchens of all time.

  • ‘Practical Magic’

We had to start this list off strong with the whimsical kitchen that gave us our favorite Midnight Margaritas scene. The kitchen from Practical Magic embodies everything we love about cottagecore — clean, cozy, warm, inviting, and most importantly, a little witchy.

  • ‘Harry Potter’

If you want to kick the cottagecore aesthetic up a notch, look no further than the Weasleys’ kitchen from the Harry Potter series. This kitchen leans more witchy and is much more English-inspired but we can’t get enough of the homey vibes of this magical home.

  • ‘Father of the Bride’

Father of the Bride was the movie that made me fall in love with the Nancy Meyers aesthetic. The vibes are timeless and elegant but not so elegant that it feels stiff or unwelcoming.

  • ‘Amelie’

We couldn’t write this article and not include the iconic red kitchen from Amelie. While tiny like most Parisian apartments, the bold color and vintage appliances give this famous kitchen a unique charm.

  • ‘It’s Complicated’

Ah, another famous Nancy Meyers kitchen (hint: it’s not the last one either). It’s Complicated stars Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin and Streep’s character’s home is centered around the ultimate California-style kitchen. Tons of natural light, organic textures, and neutral colors make this one of our dream kitchens.

  • ‘Something’s Gotta Give’

We just looked at the ultimate Nancy Meyers West Coast home so it only felt right to look at one of her most iconic East Coast homes from the 2003 film, Something’s Gotta Give, next. This all-white kitchen is the epitome of Hamptons elegance. It has a fair amount of coastal grandmother-style touches mixed in with design classics like shaker cabinets.

  • ‘What Lies Beneath’

What Lies Beneath is one of the most underrated horror movies and it also happens to take place in one of the most stunning New England lake houses you’ve ever seen. Released in 2000 and starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer, the early ’00s kitchen is timeless inviting, and elegant.

  • ‘Love Actually’

Love Actually is one of those classics that will never get old no matter how many times you watch it. The cool-toned kitchen is stunning and is where one of the film’s most heartwrenching scenes takes place.

  • ‘Twilight’

Say what you will about the Twilight movie, but the Cullen’s house is absolutely magnificent. The kitchen features breathtaking floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the beautiful Washington landscape and the open-concept design is the exact kitchen layout we all dream of having.

  • ‘Julie & Julia’

Naturally, we had to include one of the culinary world’s most famous home kitchens — Julia Child’s. The queen of French cuisine got her start in her humble, yet intoxicatingly cozy Parisian kitchen.

  • ‘The Parent Trap’

Every ’90s kid dreamed of having the kind of spacious, airy, and light-filled kitchen of Ms. Hallie Parker. While we loved the exquisite English kitchen also featured in the 1998 film, something about the California home just makes you feel so relaxed andat home.

  • ‘Call Me By Your Name’

If you’re looking for the ultimate la dolce vita Italian style inspiration, look no further than the kitchen from the 2018 film Call Me By Your Name. The sun-filled room and vintage decor will forever be one of the dreamiest kitchens in film.
