CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The show must go on at the Community Arts Center of Cambria County. Despite most activities being done 6-feet apart and with a mask the community arts center will be putting on a play, but with a twist to keep everyone safe.
Actors will perform The Prisoner of Second Avenue written by Neil Simon outside of the community arts center to allow for social distancing.
“People have been looking for things to do. They want to be out, they want to feel a sense of normalcy, they want to see other people around them even if they still have to be distanced,” said Angela Godin the executive director at the Community Arts Center of Cambria County.
Godin says the play revolves around a married couple facing hard times after the husband loses his job, which she says is something a lot of people can relate to right now during the pandemic.
Several mics will be spaced out to keep actors safe and Godin says the play will be performed in the style of a live radio show.
“We took that concept of these individuals that were performers in a studio recording live and doing sections of a performance on the radio and we married that with the idea of a live theatrical show,” says Godin.
Godin says groups of chairs will be spaced 6-feet apart for families or groups that come to enjoy the show and they have space for nearly 90 people. If you come out to watch the play Godin asks that you wear a mask.
“There’s just so many similarities to what everyone has gone through with the pandemic and so many things I’ve seen on social media with the comments the struggles and the one liners I’ve heard people say and there’s so many of them that are within this script,” said Godin.
Performance of the play will be held Friday August 21st and Saturday the 22nd at 6pm and Sunday the 23rd at 2pm. Godin says the play will be performed at the same times the following weekend.
You can purchase tickets here on the community arts center website or in person, but Godin asks you to review their safety guidelines carefully before trying to purchase tickets inside the arts center.
